Have you seen Hawaii on Craigslist?

They have an Hawaii section that offers great info on many categories including Jobs and Housing.

Craigslist is one of those unbelievable websites that does not charge for providing great information. In the Hawaii section you click on links to Oahu, The Big Island, Maui, Kauai, and Molokai.

Here is a very good article on using Craigslist for Hawaii Information.

Find Information On Hawaii At Craigslist
By Caroline Bourke

There are few people in the world today who have not heard the name Craigslist before. It is basically a sort of centralized network that features an array of online urban communities, featuring free classified advertisements. You can find almost anything here, including housing, employment, personal ads, events, gigs and resumes, and all the forums are sorted by different topics.

The website now offers sites in 450 different cities around the world and although financial information about the nonprofit company is not disclosed anywhere, business experts believe that it is worth at least 10 million USD to date. Over 5 million viewers use the site each month, and although for the most part there are no complaints about the company, it is important that visitors realize that they need to be cautious, especially when applying to jobs that are listed.

While most job ads are legitimate there are still many which are not, as well as housing rentals and sales ads which are often times phony and are used for manipulation purposes, to gain people’s personal information and lure them into danger.

Craigslist Hawaii

The Hawaii section is especially popular, and is the section covering the area of Hawaii. There are a few major categories to choose from, including personals, community, housing, for sale, discussion forums, and jobs.

For jobs, a few of the selections you have are accounting and finance, administrative/office, business/management, general labor, government, human resources, manufacturing, nonprofit sector, real estate, retail/wholesale, security, skilled trade/craft, systems/network, technical support, transport, tv/film/video, and web/info design.

Their community includes listings of activities, artists, childcare, general, groups, pets, events, musicians, local news, housing wanted, housing swap, parking/storage, office/commercial, and real estate for sale.

At any given time there are usually at least a few hundred different job offers in each category, and the site is constantly being updated and renewed. One of the best features of Craigslist Hawaii or any other section for that matter is its simplicity. There are no bright, attention grabbing graphics or annoying advertisements, but simply a listing of the items that you are interested in and contact information for the listing provider.

This makes the process of using this site easy and convenient, which are things that every computer user in the world can appreciate. As long as you take your time and be cautious when using Craigslist Hawaii or any other section, then you should not experience any problems and should be able to find exactly what you need, quickly and easily.

Live In Hawaii

June 21, 2009 by Jeff Schuman · 1 Comment
Filed under: About Hawaii

I know Diane and I plan to live in Hawaii once we get our youngest son into College.

At least we can live here some of the time! :-)

Here is a good article that goes over some of the pros and cons you will experience if you want to move to Hawaii.

It certainly can be expensive, but not impossible. I have also added a short video that gives some ideas on how average people make it more affordable to live in Hawaii.

Want to Live in Hawaii?
By Linka Po

If you want to live in Hawaii, you need to plan ahead to survive living in one of the most expensive states in the U.S. Hawaii’s cost of living is much higher than on the U.S. mainland.

Two of your biggest concerns would be the cost of housing and food and finding a job that makes enough money to pay your bills. Hawaii rents vary by city or town, but expect to pay from $600 to $1,000 for a studio and about $1,500 to $2,000 for a 2-bedroom apartment per month.

About 90% of all groceries and other supplies in Hawaii are imported, which drives the prices up. Dining out can also be costly, depending where you eat. Breakfast averages at $5 to $8, lunch is around $12, while dinner can go up from $12 to $30.

What makes living in Hawaii seem more impossible is the fact that the islands lack high-paying jobs. Engineering jobs, for instance, are harder to find than waitressing jobs.

But don’t get discouraged by these facts. With the right knowledge about where to live and dine inexpensively and where to get your groceries at a good price, you’d be able to live comfortably in the islands even on an average budget. Here are some tips on how get around and enjoy living in Hawaii.

* Acquaint yourself with Hawaii. Check out online travel websites, magazines and books for information about the islands, from its beaches down to its restaurants. Get a detailed map of the islands to give yourself a sense of direction even before you arrive.

* Understand Hawaii’s statistics, such as median real estate tax and population density of its towns and cities. This can help you choose the right Hawaii island to move to. For instance, Oahu is more populated than the other Hawaiian islands. If you want to be surrounded by fewer people and prefer a more a laid-back atmosphere, then you should choose other islands like Kauai and Molokai. However, Oahu has the best job opportunities. Unemployment on the other islands is higher than on Oahu.

* Look for cheap apartments by reading local newspapers. You can check out affordable apartments at online websites of local newspapers, such as The Honolulu Advertiser and the The Star Bulletin (honoluuluadvertiser.com and starbulletin.com). Hawaii Craigslist is also a good website to check for local apartment listings. You can also find roommates on this website to share a place with. Compare rental amounts, contact the advertisers for terms of lease and ask for photos. To save on rent consider a sharing a place.

* To be able to handle the cost of living in Hawaii, of course, you’d need a job. Craigslist is a good website to start your search. Also check the local newspapers. Other sources you can look into are local employment agencies such as Altres.

* Look for and use weekly specials to find out the best bargains of the week or month.

* Get your groceries and other such needs at affordable chain stores like Costco, Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart. You will also save a lot if you buy in bulk.

Hawaii is an expensive place to live, but there are ways how you can budget your money by shopping wisely. Looking into the right resources will show you the best deals in the islands so you could live comfortably there even with the tightest budget.

I would also refer you to the Niche Power Group as a very good way start an Internet business. Having an online business will allow you to work it in Hawaii and takes away the problem of finding a job.

However if you want to do a day trip from Maui The 100 foot yacht Molokai Princess provides daily roundtrip service between Lahaina, Maui and Kaunakakai, Molokai. The trip between ports takes about 90 minutes through the Kalohi Channel and tickets run about $85.00 round trip. Children’s prices are about half that.

Here are some beautiful scenes from Molokai put to music by Kalapana’s Malani Bilyeu.

For vacacation and visitor information, including guided tours, shopping, golf, transportation, lodging, wedding and honeymoon services check out the Molokai Visitors Association. They have a great website that is kept current on things to do in Molokai.
