By Brenda Roman

The flowers of Hawaii are as wonderfully exotic and beautiful as the Hawaiian Islands. Whether you would like a unique table arrangement or something different for your wedding, these flowers will suit you perfectly.

The islands are the ideal location for growing these incredible blossoms. Glowing sunshine, warm weather and a continuous growing season. When you think of Hawaiian flowers, there are some that immediately come to mind.

Yellow Hibiscus

The Hawaii state flower is the yellow hibiscus. It is native to Hawaii and became the designated state flower in 1988. The hibiscus was the state flower in 1923, but it could be any color. It is often seen red in old photos.

The plant can grow up to 5 feet and is a great option for a wedding lei, boutonniere or to simply wear behind your ear.

Bird of Paradise

Probably one of the most exotic looking and most well know of the flowers of Hawaii is the heliconia or bird of paradise. This beautiful flower is almost like a piece of architecture in its perfection. They have a wax like appearance and are perfect for a simple table arrangement.

Orchids

The orchid is both beautiful and simple. They are wonderful for bouquets, table arrangements and as boutonnieres. You can create a combination of orchids, lilies and roses for a beautifully fragrant arrangement.

Anthuriums

Anthuriums are very exotic looking. They are huge and very often colorful leaves (which look like a flower) and have a large central spadix. It usually has a multitude of colors and is said to resemble a flamingo’s bright colors. These are an easy way to give your design a colorful and exotic look.

Plumeria

The incredibly fragrant and beautiful Plumeria are seen as the scent of many different items. Lotions, soaps and even cosmetics are often found with this sweet smell.

If you are interested in a wedding lei, Plumeria are the flower of choice. Not only are they colorful, but they hold their scent very well for long periods. They blend well with many other flowers, as well.

For your next party or luau consider an exotic Hawaiian flower design. Your guests will be surprised at the beautiful setting that you provide. They offer such an unexpected delight to any party.

There are so many different flowers of Hawaii that your only difficulty may be in deciding which one to use. Choose an incredible wedding lei, wedding bouquet, flower arrangements and boutonniere for your own Hawaiian wedding and bring a taste of Hawaii home.
